5 Reasons to Love Wine

Wine is the perfect metaphor for the stages of a human life. An astonishing parallelism that essentially encapsulates the life cycle of any living thing: birth, the joys of an exuberant youth, becoming more moderate with age, reaching a decisive moment and growing old, oxidizing until death.

According to an Italian proverb “there are five good reasons to drink wine: the arrival of a guest, one’s present and future thirst, the great taste of wine or any other reason.”

5 Reasons to Love Wine

Only five, but they could be hundreds.  Below we add our own five personal reasons for loving wine:

1.       Because wine is as old as mankind

In our article entitled “Surprising…but true!” we talked about how Neolithic man already knew how to “make” wine…

Our atavistic connection to the grapevine is probably one of the most enduring and fruitful that we humans have ever established with nature as well as the most enjoyable.

All great civilizations throughout human history have continuously reinvented the culture of wine: Egyptians, Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans…all of them contributed significantly to the progress of winegrowing, winemaking, transport, preservation, storage, etc. Food for thought, right?

2.       Wine is like life…and art

Any kind of artistic expression strives, in one way or another, to represent the reality of its time. It does so from a subjective perspective that justifies the concept or definition of author, artist, artisan, etc. and gives full meaning to the cultural act in and of itself.  Well, wine is no exception.

In fact, it goes even further… Wine is the perfect metaphor for the stages of a human life. An astonishing parallelism that essentially encapsulates the life cycle of any living thing: birth, the joys of an exuberant youth, becoming more moderate with age, reaching a decisive moment and growing old, oxidizing until death. After all, from a biological point of view, life is nothing more than a slow, gradual and irreversible process of oxidation.

3.       Because it pairs well with everything

And we’re not only talking about gastronomic delights…music, a movie, a good book, with company or enjoying a quiet moment alone, in the summer or winter…there is a wine for every occasion and every mood.

Wine is adaptable; it finds its momentum in our own. Flexibility and versatility make wine a product with soul.

4.       Because it brings us together…

“The best wine isn’t necessarily the most expensive, but the one you share.” George Brassens

Wine—always in moderation—facilitates human contact, encourages interaction, bears witness to knowing glances and first encounters, to heartfelt confessions and serene conversations, to the moments we’ve already shared and those yet to come…

5.       [Share your reason here] ________________

As we have seen, hundreds of reasons could be given—all of them equally valid—for falling in love with wine culture. And we are keenly aware of the fact that each one of you could contribute reasons of your own.

After all, in the world of wine—as in art—there’s plenty of room for different opinions. Wine finds its place in the nuances, in subjective perception; this is where its existence takes on full and complete meaning.
