Chef Paul Qui: Acqua Panna & S.Pellegrino Young Chef of the Year

The S.Pellegrino Cooking Cup was held in Venice between June 14th and 15th of 2013. As in the past editions, 10 chefs from all over the world participated to the race, cooking their special dishes on board of different sailing boats. Read below who they are.


Chef Paul Qui, 32 years old from the United States, delighted the judges with his Chawan Mushi recipe and became this year’s Acqua Panna & S.Pellegrino Young Chef of the Year.

The Acqua Panna People’s Choice Award went to the Israeli team captained by Chef Haviv Moshe.

As you all know S.Pellegrino Cooking Cup is not just a regatta, but also a cooking competition in which some of the most talented young chefs in the world challenge each other: a celebration of two Italian excellency – sailing and fine dining – set against the magical backdrop of Venice’s lagoon.

Dishes prepared during the race got judged by a panel of guest judges including chefs Massimo Bottura, Bruno Oger, Ron Blaauw, Richard Ousby, Davide Scabin, Nino Graziano, Franco Favaretto and Andrea Berton. Ottavio Missoni Jr and the TV presenter Francesca Barberini will also be on the panel.

Here are the 10 chefs who competed for the Cooking Cup and other titles this year: Stewart Wesson, Australia, 25 years old, Rudi Jr Obauer, Austria, 24 years old, Yannick Van Aeken, Belgium, Ren Jie Liu, China, 30 years old, Haviv Moshe, 29 years old, Israel, Giuseppe Iannotti, Italy, 30 years old. Jeroen Trimbos, Netherlands, Vladimir Mukhin, Russia, Dominic Petzold, 27 years old, Emirates, Paul Qui, USA, 32 years old.

In last 2012 Cooking Cup the Australian chef Richard Ousby  was awarded with the Young Chef Of The Year 2012 prize by Acqua Panna &  S.Pellegrino thanks his recipe, Grilled Mackeral,Garlic Custard, Peas, Onion, Toasted Rice by a jury composed by chefs Massimo Bottura and Mauro Colagreco and Davide Scabin, among others (in the picture).

In the same Cooking Cup edition the Israeli team, together with chef David Frenkel conquered the Acqua Panna People’s Choice Award.
