Each medallion bottle is 100% hand-crafted, four days of work, two master goldsmiths, twelve different trades, seven hundred metres of brass tape dipped in 24 carat gold, five hundred and eight silver-weld points, four hundred Jeroboam 2002s in the World – two hundred released in 2013

Highly technical prowess based on advanced knowhow inspired by the greatest traditions of jewellery, Roederer’s emblematic medallion is composed of a light, protective 24-carat latticework. The 2002 cuvée is a jewel, revealing its many facets in the shimmering reflections from this sensual, timeless, powdered gold armour.

An exceptional year with all the superlative Champagne attributes of a truly great year: uniformly warm temperatures, without too much sunshine and heat and a very mild winter; a slight deficit in rainfall (around 20%) during the vegetative cycle; …

… cool nights and a dry, fresh north-easterly wind in August and September… All of these exceptionally favourable conditions contributed to ideally ripe grapes and a fine concentration of flavours. The grape harvests began on September 12th for Chardonnays with an average sugar content of more than 11% natural alcohol.

Precise, distinctive and harmonious with a rich, powerful body that has a very pure balance and incredible aging potential. 55% Pinot noir – 45% Chardonnay – 20% wines matured in wood (oak barrels) with weekly batonnage – no malolactic fermentation.

Cristal is made from crus from the Reims mountains, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs.

It is aged for an average of 5 years in cellars and also spends 8 months resting after disgorging to complete its maturation. Dosage variesbetween 8 and 10 g/l depending on the vintage.

An intense, delicate wine. It displays a pure, precise combination of sweet flower, cocoa, finely roasted hazelnuts and confit citrus fruit. The texture is infinitely silky, concentrate and flavoursome, with an explosion of ripe fruits, red fruits, white chocolate, caramel and pastries that is typical of Cristal.

This wine is both powerful and refined with a growing sensation that ultimately reaches a genuine harmony of perfectly integrated flavours. The finish is long-lasting, fresh and discretely bitter making the wine almost “crunchy”.
