How To Cook Kale Chips – It’s Easier Than You Think!

I never thought kale chips would ever be as tasty as potato chips. There, I said it. Kale chips? I just wasn’t buying the hype. How could a leafy green ever taste like junk food? How could kale chips ever satisfy my craving for something crunchy, salty and delicious? Well, my friends, I’ve never been happier about being wrong.

After coming across countless Youtube videos and articles about these wonder chips I decided to try them. I looked up a recipe for how to cook kale chips and was surprised by its simplicity. Three ingredients and a hot oven is all I needed. It looked so easy. Surely, I could spare some time to try this experiment and see what all the fuss was all about.

First, I removed the stems from the kale then tore the leaves to bite size pieces. They were washed, spun dry and blended with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt. The trick here is to toss the kale and the olive oil thoroughly. You kind of want to rub the oil into every leaf. While one tablespoon of oil may not seem like enough for an entire bunch of kale, you’ll be surprised to see how far it stretches. Adding any more oil would make things too greasy.

After salting to your liking (a small sprinkle will do), you could also top the chips with a bit of Parmesan cheese, pepper, crushed red chilies…the possibilities are endless. My personal favorite is Himalayan crystal salt and nothing else. Place the kale on a single layer in a baking pan. Bake at 350 F (176 C)  for 10 minutes, flip the pan and bake for another 10 minutes (it could take more or less time depending on your oven and the size of the leaves).

The kale chips will be ready when they are completely crispy and light as air. It’s best to let them cool before eating – but that may be too hard after getting your first bite. If you don’t happen to eat them all at once, you may store an leftover kale chips in an air-tight container kept at room temperature.

You see? Learning how to cook kale chips was a breeze and, honestly, it’s a killer snack that really satisfies that urge to eat chips. To recap, here’s what you’ll need to make one batch:

1 bunch of kale (organic is best)

1 tablespoon of olive oil

1 teaspon of salt

Just follow the steps indicated above and get ready for an amazing – and healthy – snacking experience.
