If any boat deserved the sobriquet ‘bad ass’, then this 58-footer from OTAM is it – and you can see it for yourself at the Cannes Boat Show in September.

Built as a chase boat for a superyacht owned by Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris, the yacht, Crazy Too, has been absolutely rammed with power – twin 1,724hp CAT engines delivering a top speed of just under 60 knots.

The jet black livery was a demand of the owner, who wanted ‘a total black look’. That’s exactly what he got, with a further carbon fibre effect on deck thanks to a vinyl wrap by Wild Group International.

Christian Gatto took care of the interior, designing a three-cabin layout – a single cabin to starboard, a double to port and a full-beam master cabin in the bow with ensuite bathroom.

The saloon is open plan, with an L-shaped couch and fully equipped kitchen including a 16 bottle custom wine cellar. All internal furniture – in a black mirror finish – has been designed with rounded corners, but there’s also respite from the black with shades of beige for the textiles and leathers.

Entertainment was clearly a priority, with an AV system to rival that of most superyachts. The cockpit has six high-end Revel speakers, while down below the saloon and master cabin have been fitted with full HD surround sound cinema set-ups.

The owner’s representative, Alex Banning of SuperYachtsMonaco, said: ‘We had a long task in finding the right balance of shipyard, quality, ability to customize and performance above 43 knots. We needed a chase boat brand with pedigree, history, financial backing and the ability to guarantee that the boat would achieve the contract speed. OTAM has excelled throughout the process.’

Antonio Caviglia, OTAM’s sales and marketing director, added: ‘Crazy Too is really a unique boat: a chase-boat that can also be used for a weekend cruise dedicated to fun and speed, with virtually all of the amenities you could desire on board a superyacht.’
